September 19 a morning of bears

Our morning lecture was interrupted by an announcement from the Captain that a mother bear and two cubs had been sighted. Of course we all rushed up on deck, stopping on the way to grab jackets and cameras. And there she was roaming around with her babies tagging behind and, below, around the ship were their tracks.

Just look at those claw marks
No matter that it was snowing and freezing the scene was wonderful.  They were almost a km away but I got loads of shots and some videos - taken with my iPhone so sadly they are not high res. I dashed back for my camera but by the time I got back the babies had curled up and mum was off by some open water hunting and too far away to get a shot.
Some days earlier another bear was spotted and I took some photos from our balcony - how lucky were we? these were taken with my Lumix camera so I could zoom in more. They are still pretty grainy but the images I think are delightful and full of character. She is so comical.
